There was an anxious moment for Hamelin, who nearly ran into Wenhao Liang as he passed his Chinese skater. But a review cleared Hamelin of interference, allowing the Canadian to move on. Hamelin won three World Cup races in the 1,000m this season and is a two-time world silver medallist. Charle Cournoyer of Boucherville, Que., (1:24.787) and Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que., (1:26.089) also qualified for the mens quarter-finals. Both won their respective heats. Canadas historic total was increased to eight gold medals and 26 medals overall since the sport debuted in 1992 after Hamelin on Monday crossed first in the 1,500m. Stewart, a three-time Sprint Cup Series champion, is expected to drive his No. 14 Stewart-Haas Racing Chevrolet in Friday and Saturdays practice sessions, Saturday nights preseason race -- The Sprint Unlimited -- and Sundays qualifying for the Daytona 500. It will be Stewarts first time back in a race car since he suffered a broken right leg in an accident during a sprint car race last August in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
